How do I upload pages to my web site?
This is perhaps one of the more intimidating tasks for first-time site
builders. It sounds hard but it is actually very easy. You can upload files
using Customer HQ, or you can use any FTP software. FrontPage
users can choose to use FrontPage to publish their sites in one easy step.
Customer HQ also contains comprehensive guides to uploading and
maintaining your site. Customer HQ has over 350 pages of
how-to guides, troubleshooting guides, answers to common questions,
tutorials, software downloads and other useful resources.
Will I have unlimited FTP access to my account?
You will have access to your site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you can work
on your site whenever you want to.
What can I do with Telnet?
You can use Telnet to log in to your site and access the
Unix prompt. From there, you can issue pretty much any Unix (Linux)
command. Telnet is not an essential tool for running a web site, but it
can be very useful, particularly if you intend to write and/or install your own CGI scripts - the debugging
information you can get by running your script locally through Telnet can be
invaluable. Telnet can also be useful for many other tasks (e.g. file
management) but most of the common ones can be performed through FTP software
or Customer HQ.
What is Secure Shell (SSH)?
Secure Shell (SSH) is a secure replacement for telnet. Many users of telnet,
rlogin, ftp, and other such programs might not realize that their password is
transmitted across the Internet unencrypted, but it is. SSH encrypts all
traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping,
connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks. Additionally, SSH
provides a myriad of secure tunneling capabilities, as well as a variety of
authentication methods. All that you need to use SSH on our servers is telnet
access and appropriate software on your local machine. Customer HQ contains links to a number of free SSH software downloads. These generally have
the same look and feel as telnet software.
Do you support Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Extensions?
Yes, we do. Our servers support Microsoft FrontPage 97/98/2000/2002 Extensions.
The extensions are free. You will be asked whether you want them installed on
your site at the time you place your order.
